"BAXA"
(CH. JA BRAW
BAXA DE
ARIOSA
CGC)
 |
In the Winter of 2006, Baxa
started a new life with friend Sarah Cole. Sarah is looking forward to
enrolling Ms. B into a Delta Society course to earn her Therapy Dog
Certificate.
They are having a blast training in
Rally Obedience and plan to continue in Musical Freestyle.
Removing a dog from a breeding program
is a difficult decision, especially when it's your favorite dog!
However, it is important to remember that a dog is MORE than a breeding
program, no matter how much you'd love a puppy out of her or him.
While Baxa proved herself in
character, working drive, and most conformational aspects, she
started moving a bit like Charlie Chaplan in the rear around 10 months
of age. After a few thousand dollars trying to figure out what was going
on (not the hocks, not the knees, not the hips, not the leg bones...),
the specialists never were able to pinpoint exactly what it was. But it
was clear that, whatever it was, it was going to interfere with her
function as a working dog. Since Ariosa breeds for working drive, it
seemed a folly to pass this fault to future generations.
Baxa is now spayed and living a
wonderful and rich life. I see her every few weeks. While she is now
absolutely attached to her new family, it is clear she will always
remember me. It's a good thing, too, because I need my Baxa-fix every so
often. She's the best snuggler in the world! She's going to make a
superb therapy dog.

Baxa (pronounced BA'-sha) was the
charmed pup from the beginning--the one always calmly getting into
trouble, figuring out problems, taking on the world as if it was the
most natural thing to do.
At 10 months of age, Baxa earned her IABCA
International puppy championship and also her first Group placement.
Since then, she has continued to be a judge favorite: in June 2006, Baxa
took a Group 4 at an AKC B-match under herding judge Teddi Gill.

judges' write-ups, click here.
Baxa's temperament is more open than most SWDs, and she's proven to be
multi-talented. We trained in herding, agility, obedience, musical
freestyle, and as a hearing service dog.
I once asked judge Pat Hastings how
she could place her dogs in other homes and not have her heart broken.
I've taken her advice to heart: if someone can offer a fuller life to
one of my dogs than I can, then there is only one answer. Now, let me
say, my dogs have a great life in my home!
