| Whether it's in the
show ring, agility course, in the water, or out with the sheep,
Pink is always pulling through for me.
Pink chose me. When she was a few weeks old,
Pink looked me squarely in the eye and said, "You are going to
keep me, aren't you? I'll make it worth your while!" And boy,
has she.
How I got so lucky, I'll never know.

Above, Pink turns demonstrates the PT Course at the
2006 SWD Jamboree. Spanish Water Dogs like
to work close to their stock, so it's a bit of a job teaching them
to keep their distance!
Pink is the first SWD in the U.S. to earn a
herding title (American Herding Breed Association). Recently, we
have begun training in "Tending" or "Continental Style" herding.
This is a closer representation of the type of work done in Spain:
the dogs and herder move the livestock to and from the pasture,
protecting the surrounding area from the flock, and protecting and
containing the flock for the duration.
Left, Pink retrieving a bird wing for the
evaluator during her 7-week temperament test. Pink has always been
a decent retriever and hates to lose out on her share of bumpers
at the river! A little competition can be a good thing, though.
Younger housemate Ave is a retrieving fool, and Pink is working hard
to impress me over her younger sister! |
